Semiconductor Companies in India
Today, semiconductors are being used in maximum devices. Looking at the increasing role of semiconductors in the future, domestic and global companies are investing in this semiconductor sector at a large scale. In India, till now, a total of six semi conductor plants have been approved by the Central and State Governments, of which a total investment of about 2.4 Lakh Crores is being made in these 6 semiconductor manufacturing plants by different companies.
Tata PSMC Semi Conductor Plant
Indian origin Tata Group company and Taiwanese company Power Chip Semi Conductor Manufacturing Corporation are together constructing a semi conductor fabrication facility in Dholera city of Gujarat. A total investment of Rs. 91,000 will be made in the Tata PM SMC semiconductor plant, in which both these companies have also partnered with the Central Government as the Central Government will contribute 50% of the investment cost in this, although it was inaugurated last day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024. Setting up a semiconductor plant will also generate employment in this plant in India. The production capacity of this semiconductor plant will be 50,000 wipers per month. At present, work is going on in full swing in this small Tata PM SMC semiconductor plant, after which its production is expected to start by December 2026.
Tata Electronics Semiconductor Plant
Tata Electronics, specially on behalf of Tata group of India, is setting up a Green Field semiconductor assembly and testing facility at Morigaon Road in Assam. This will be India’s first and a large semi conductor plant to be set up in North East. So far, an investment of about Rs 27,000 crore has been announced in the Tata Electronics semiconductor plant. Preparations are underway to prepare the bank in the next two years by around October 2026.

Micron OST Plant
Micron OST plant Micron is an American company that basically manufactures chips right now. Micron is also setting up an outsourcing assembly and testing unit plant at its OST plant in Shandan district of Gujarat with an investment of around Rs 23,000 crore. Micron is the company that has just set up the first semiconductor plant in India. Assembly and testing of NAND and DRAM products will be done in this plant of Micron. The supply of chips made from Micron semiconductor plant will be sold in the markets of India as well as the whole world. This Micron company has been working in Gujarat for the last 1 year, hence this Micron will almost start operating by June of next year, 2025. For the semiconductor plant, Central Government had provided 50% and Gujarat Government had provided 20% financial assistance. Under this India, Micron will manufacture the same conductor in India itself and export it to the whole world.
